|SOME NOTES ON MEDIEVAL ENGLISH GENEALOGY|
Volume 1, page 99:
He [John (Stratford), Earl of Aldborough (d. 1823)] m., Apr. 1777, Elizabeth, da. and h. of the Rev. Frederick HAMILTON (a grandson of William, DUKE OF HAMILTON [S.]), Archdeacon of Raphoe and Vicar of Wellingborough, Northants, by Rachel, da. of (----) DANIEL, of Ireland.
Gent. Mag. gives a circumstantial account of her death, at Bath, about May 1811, from an abscess, and adds that she had been a Dublin toast, and the best horsewoman in Ireland. V.G.
The date and place given for her death in the text contradict those in the footnote. The Gentleman's Magazine, describing her death in Bath in 1811, does not give her forename, but describes her as the late countess of Aldborough, and as the eldest daughter of Frederick Hamilton, grandson of the third Duke of Hamilton. It is unclear who died in Paris in 1846.
[This contradiction was pointed out by Leo van de Pas in January 2003.
